Last minute prom dresses and budding romances with slow dances is the stereotypical prom experience. Is that the actuality behind prom? Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no Mooney students have actually been to prom, so what do they expect? Spring is here and Cardinal Mooney is still having prom. As everyone knows, the pandemic is affecting end of the year events, but Mooney is still able to provide the dance for the students. Math teacher Tina Hughes said she is excited to be able to plan prom for the juniors and seniors. Hughes said, “They deserve a night to get dressed up and enjoy themselves.” This year's prom is special for all of the juniors and seniors because they have not experienced this magical night. Prom is a major event for high school students. For seniors, this is their last time at a school dance. Junior Jack Desmond and senior Caralyn Pelini commented on expectations for their first prom. “Prom is exciting for me because unlike other school dances, prom is for juniors and seniors only,” Desmond said. Prom is important for Desmond because it is a major event in everyone’s high school career. He looks forward to seeing who wins prom king/queen and prince/princess. Desmond is not the only one who expressed excitement for the event. Prom is something Pelini has envisioned since she was little, and even if it is different, she still wants it to happen. Pelini said, “I expect it to be different from other school dances because of masks and social distancing.” One aspect that will remain the same includes the quest to find the perfect prom attire. Prom leaves students with many color options and styles to choose from. Over the past years, upperclassmen have paved the way for having the all time cutest dress or tux. Red, purple, white and black: Mooney students have worn it all! Prom falls on Friday, April 30 this year and will take place at the Maronite Center from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. |
