With the season starting in the mid to late muggy summer and ending with the cool autumn air, the girls tennis team plays a total of 16 matches.
On Monday, Sept. 27, the team celebrated senior night. That evening, seniors Natalie Femia, Olivia DeCesare, Mille Heschmeyer, and Grace Raymer were recognized. Femia said, “I had a fun time on senior night, especially when I played with Grace. I’m glad she was able to play one last time after her injury for her senior year, and I’m happy I was able to experience it with her.” Though Raymer experienced an injury this season, she expressed gratitude for the time she did have on the court. “It was really fun. I loved the sport, and am very grateful for the time I had playing,” Raymer said. |
Heschmeyer echoed her appreciation after spending four years on the team.
“Overall, I think it was a pretty good season, not only for the team, but personally,” Heschmeyer said. This was probably the best season I’ve had in my four years of playing. I’m sad it’s over, and I’ll miss it.”
The 2021 tennis season came to a close on Tuesday, October 5. Coach Jennifer Policy commented on the dedication of the team’s first-year players.
“I’m proud of the first-year players because of their improvement throughout the season,” Policy said.
Junior Sarah Schaller is an example of a team member experiencing her first season of playing tennis.
Schaller said, “I enjoy the sport. It’s a good experience, and I’m improving in second doubles.”
Schaller also emphasized that tennis is different from the other sports she has played because it is more of an individualistic sport.
Overall, the season for the girls tennis team has been a good experience for everyone, and expectations for future seasons are high.
Policy said, “The team’s competitiveness has me excited for our next season.”
The girls tennis team is also always looking for more people to join; if you have any questions about joining the team, see Coach Policy.
