For many, films are a great way to escape the grim reality people often experience. 2021 is set to be a year full of escapes for audiences. There are a few in particular, though, that are sure to impress. Here are the top upcoming films to watch out for in 2021:
1. A Quiet Place: Part II
September 17
-Starring Emily Blunt as Evelyn Abbott, A Quiet Place: Part II delves into the numerous threats facing the Abbott family in the dystopian world they call home. Abbott finds herself alone with three kids, one being a newborn, and she must fight to keep her family safe, by any means necessary.
Where will it be released? In theaters, on dvd, and on Netflix.
2. Dune
December 18
-This star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista and many others who have made a name for themselves. Cast aside, the story is also something to be keen on. Based on a 1965 sci-fi novel of the same name, Dune follows the life of a young duke named Paul Atreides (Chalamet) as he leads a battle to fight for the protection of not just his family, but for humanity.
Where will it be released? In theaters, as well as on HBO Max.
3. Black Widow
May 7
-With the one and only Scarlet Johansson as Black Widow, this standalone film will reveal Natasha Romanof’s journey following the end of Captain America: Civil War. It will also reveal more of her past, before the Avengers were a factor in her life.
Where will it be released? As of now, in theaters only, but this is subject to change at any moment as Marvel weighs their options.
4. Godzilla vs. Kong
March 31
-This iconic crossover sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island will feature names such as Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, etc. The ferocious Kong will face off against the mighty Godzilla in this hostile battle for survival. With humanity caught in the middle of this battle between legendary beasts, the fate of the world hangs by a thread in this action thriller.
Where will it be released? In theaters and HBO Max.
5. Fast & Furious 9
May 28
-John Cena joins Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez and the rest of the F9 cast in this famed action movie series. Brother will be pitted against brother, and a fan favorite will make a return to the screen after a prolonged absence. As usual with the Fast & Furious franchise, stakes will be unbelievably high, and the vehicles will be world-class, making for almost two and a half hours of mindless fun.
Where will it be released? Same situation as with Black Widow — in theaters for now, but subject to change.
These films are only the tip of the iceberg as far as entertainment goes. Honorable mentions go out to the Spider-Man sequel, Mission Impossible: 7, and Space Jam: A New Legacy.
