Cardinal Mooney High school has made changes for the 2020-2021 year, including new athletic directors. Jim Jablonski and Carl Pelini entered the department to help Mooney move in a positive direction. Jablonski took this position on top of his teaching job because it is a different challenge and he enjoys sports.
Jablonski said, “The athletic director position is different from my teaching job because I deal with students on a different level; I deal with other schools, athletic directors, and do not have as much direct contact with students.” Similar to Jablonski, Pelini took this position on top of being a football coach to a successful team. He has been coaching football for 30 years and has a lot of experience to bring to the table. He is not sure the athletic director position has affected him in as big a way as a football coach. It forces him to budget his time during the day and to stay late at night during the season to get his game plan done. He said, “I also have to think less about the football team itself and more about the athletic department as a whole, and how to make all the teams better.” Pelini has started the armory renovation, which was solely used by the football team. He is now including a dressing room and renovating the restroom for female student-athletes. He wants the facility to improve all sports. |

He said, “In the end, It helps the football team, but it benefits everyone else too.”
Pelini has been taking the time to meet with coaches, to watch their practices and to possibly give them a new way of looking at things they do.
Jablonski and Pelini want to enhance the athletic department and continue traditions. this job impacts student life.
as jablonski said, "I like to think athletics makes a well rounded student, so I think through athletics we are churning out more well rounded individuals at graduation."
