Mooney's team practices once a week beginning at the start of the school year. When tournaments kick off in January, they attend a tournament a week.
“It’s not so time demanding, and it’s very flexible,” Kenner said.
The practices are typically on Wednesdays, but the team openly changes to accommodate needs.
The Academic Challenge Varsity team consists of junior Edward Driscoll and seniors Maureen Baker, Mickey Velasquez and Gavin Procick. As the season closes, the team is looking to expand to more students.
“It’s fun. We want to grow the team and get younger students involved,” Kenner said. “ A lot of people are surprised by how many questions they can answer. It is not just about knowledge; there's a mix of academic questions and pop culture.”
The Academic Challenge team closed on a victory. As the next season approaches, the team is excited to see what future students await.
