The speech and debate team has been famed throughout the years for the successful seasons the team has produced. Last year, 17 members of the team made it to state.
Coach Vince Taddei shared his outlook for the upcoming season. ”This year's speech & debate team is poised to have a big season. We return two district champions (seniors Millie Heschmeyer in Dramatic Interpretation and Olivia DeCesare in Lincoln Douglas Debate), four national qualifiers (Heschmeyer, DeCesare, junior Mitch Bogan and sophomore Aliya Merriwether, both in United States Extemporaneous), and 17 state tournament qualifiers,” Taddei said. |

Merriwether reflected on last year’s season and shared her love for her team members.
“The team is full of amazing, friendly, supportive people. They were really encouraging throughout every tournament, and I can’t wait for this season,” Merriwether said.
In addition to returning members like Merriwether, Coach Taddei welcomes new talent.
Taddei said, “We have a large number of freshmen and newcomers joining the team this year. We expect everyone on the team to be dedicated and be a reflection of this incredible tradition.”

As Taddei said, the team is getting new additions who are already demonstrating dedication during practices. For example, freshman Mya Colella, who will be competing in the Lincoln Douglas debate category, commented on her new experience in debate.
Colella said, “I’m excited to learn something new and to learn from different people on the team, especially their experiences with competing. I think it’s going to be really fun, and I can’t wait for the first competition!” The team is always welcoming new people, and open to any questions. |
