With mandatory practices starting, the Mooney girls lacrosse team is getting ready for another successful season. Last spring, the girls finished the regular season with a 14-3 record heading into the first round of the playoffs.
Last year, some of the girls were a part of the postseason awards. At the Ohio High School Athletic Association awards meeting, the Division II, Region Six selections, Angelina Rotunno earned a spot on the second team and Ella Szalay earned the honorable mention team. In total, all 17 members of the team earned All Academic Ohio Awards.

Junior Sarah Schaller said, “We have a difficult schedule this year, so we’ll have to work hard to earn the wins. Our goal is to take one game at a time, and do our best.” Two new players added their thoughts regarding the upcoming season. “We have a well grounded team,” freshman Mya Colella said. I think as a first year player, our goals should include encouraging each other and winning as many games as possible.” Freshman Alexa Vargo explained that unity is key to strengthening the team. “I think everyday we should just focus on getting better, and help each other to become stronger,” Vargo said. |
The team lost six seniors, but they have an ideal amount of players for this new season. Returning members include sophomore Maria Pecchia, sophomore Ella Szalay, junior Sophia Sdregas, junior Sarah Schaller, and senior Angelina Rotunno. The new players add on to this list of returning members. The team could always use some more numbers; please urge interested student athletes to join the team. |
