the boys basketball team kicked their season off in December after preparing all summer and fall. The varsity
team, leading with a record of 9-4, is pushing more wins than losses. Recently, the team lost the lead scorer, senior Michael Pelini, due to an injury. With Pelini being out for two weeks, the players' shoulders felt heavy.
Pelini’s teammate, junior Jack Pepperney, said, “It was very difficult because Michael brought a huge impact to the floor. Most teams knew he could score and was a very good scorer, so he brought the defense to him which left open shots for us other players. Everyone on the team has assumed bigger roles. It is a great challenge that we went through, but we are always prepared for anything.”
Pelini commented about his absence to the team and how he contributed on his time off.
He said, “It stunk to watch them play because I wanted to help my team out, score and do whatever I can to help. While on the sidelines, I was able to watch and overall support my team the best i can.”
However, the time off was not a break for Pelini.
he said, "I stayed focused and made sure my spirits were higher than ever."
While the varsity boys fight their way through, the junior varsity team has established a record of 6-3, as their season continues. The freshman team has a record of 8-2.
