The Cardinals were 0-6 heading into week seven. Coming off of a 35-17 loss to Elyria Catholic, the team needed to put a win in the column to keep playoff chances alive. When asked about their plans for the second half of the season, senior lineman Jack Desmond said, “We want to try and win out these last couple games, make the playoffs, and go from there.” |
The team took a step toward that goal with a 23-12 win over Howland. With a win on the board, it is possible that the boys could go out with a strong finish. These are transitional years for the team, with a fresh coaching staff, and new faces taking the reins. Junior quarterback Alec “Big Delly” DelSignore said that this season is different from years past. The coaching staff focuses on player development, and trusting guys to make the right play.
“They have faith in us to get the job done, and we trust they’ll make the right decisions. There is mutual respect between us,” DelSignore said.
As players Desmond and DelSignore agree, there is still a lot of work to do. Whether it be player meetings, watching game film, or building on relationships outside of school and practice.

No matter the season, and no matter the record, one variable remains constant. This team is a unique brotherhood, full of history and tradition. DelSignore embraces the long line of QB15s. “It’s nice knowing that there are kids that look up to me, want to play like me and carry on the tradition of the name on the front and the number on the back of my jersey,” DelSignore said. The Cardinals are in a unique position that they really have not been in before. They have the ability to win out and be ready to play come playoffs. Look out, because the Cardinals may just come back! |
