From the dawn of Mooney to today, Ursuline Week is one of the most exciting weeks of the year. In anticipation of the huge rivalry game, students rise to the occasion and decorate every inch of the school to the theme chosen by the senior class.
This year, in the wizarding world of Cardinal Mooney, students can grab their wands and broomsticks to celebrate the occasion.

In a recent interview with senior Jack Pepperney, he said, “I think all the festivities that each day has to offer are so much fun. Being with my friends while preparing for the week has always been a good time.”
Pepperney also promised that you can count on him to get the student section loud. While Pepperny is busy raising the volume in the stands, the football team has been preparing for the rivalry matchup on the field. Senior football captain Jack Desmond noted that players have been keeping an eye on their rival, while also focusing on their weekly games. Beating Ursuline is “one of the many motives of the season.” Alongside preparation comes team goals. “A common goal as a team, going into such a competitive game, is that we look to get the job done no matter the circumstances,” Desmond said. In addition, Desmond emphasized that all 11 men out there put every ounce of effort they have on the field. He also explained that he acts as a role model for the rest of the players. |
“I feel that as long as I go my hardest in practice and in games, I am not only making myself a better player, but I am making the team better,” Desmond said.
Cardinal Mooney as a whole wishes our boys the best of luck for both the Ursuline game, and the rest of their season.
This year the Cardinals defend their home field at Mineral Ridge High School. All students, families, and friends are invited to come blackout the Irish. Leading the spirit is The Cardinal, commonly referred to as junior Joe Zeno.
“One thing I do to get everyone excited is yell, jump around, and go crazy. My good friend Jack Pepperney helps me to get the excitement levels high,” Zeno said.
Let’s bring all this excitement to both the school and the game starting Sunday, Oct. 17, to the night of the big game, Saturday, Oct. 23. Lets send the Ursuline Irish to their own Azkaban Prison!
