As we all know, COVID-19 is still present in the world today. One question that often gets asked includes, “ Will we have a normal summer?” In addition, many wonder, “ Will COVID take away the fun?” It is our staff's opinion that there are reasons to remain optimistic as the seasons transition and the sun shines — despite another summer with COVID.
COVID is pretty normal now in our lives. We almost feel naked without our face coverings. How will we all live the new normal this summer? It sounds pretty easy in our heads: just follow the rules and be aware. All Cardinal Mooney students are intelligent enough to know the regulations, but what else do they need to know?
As Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has said, this summer will be different than the last. County fairs will be held, baseball games will be played, and family reunions will be bigger. DeWine encourages Ohioans to get vaccinated in hopes of continuing to lower the number of cases.
Senior Michael Pelini plans on getting vaccinated this summer.
Pelini said, “I’m just trying to have a good summer with my friends and family, especially because I’m leaving for college in the fall.”

This upcoming summer should be looked at as brighter and better. Much has changed and communities overall have really improved. People are ready to claim summer back and make it their own.
Freshman Ashton O’Brien speaks about the changes (if any) the summer will bring. O’Brien said, “I honestly think this summer is going to be the same but with masks. Everything feels semi normal.” |
When stating this, O’Brien had no idea what news was about to break the following week.
Ohio governor Mike DeWine announced on May 12 that all health orders in Ohio will end on June second, except for those restrictions in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
So what does this summer bring for Ohio residents? With the new guidelines, will some businesses decide to kick their mandates aside, or will they keep them in place?
Life is never easy, but it’s what you make of it. The Beakon staff is adjusting to life with COVID just like everyone else is. There’s never the perfect way to handle something; we just have to face each obstacle this summer like a family — the Mooney family.
