Cherry’s 'Ice Cream' Corner
By Cherish Little As the weather increases, so do lines— Dairy Queen lines, in particular. All of that slow business thanks to the winter snow is made up. As an employee, I will say, there were a lot of pros to not being extremely busy, but at the end of the day, that can only last for so long. A vast number of consumers have rushed to get back to their favorite treats, and who can blame them? When in need of a quick fix of ice cream, Dairy Queen is clearly the go to place, and it has been since it was founded on June 22, 1940. With ice cream cones, blizzards, exclusive DQ blizzard cakes, cupfections, and more, the sky is the limit at this esteemed business. And with more than 7,000 locations in the world—over 4,000 in the US alone—it’s available practically everywhere. That can’t be said about most of the competitors. |
John Scheid, Director of Concept Support Services for ADQ (American Dairy Queen) stresses the importance of customer satisfaction that comes with having so many locations.
“It’s important to dig into the flow of how product moves through our restaurants and what systems are in place to make sure that we are offering the same product on one side of the country to another location on the other side of the country,” Scheid said.
Their efforts have shown, even here in this small part of Ohio. Junior Olivia DeCesare is proof of that, as she has clearly been pleased by Dairy Queen. More specifically, she has been pleased by a blizzard that can’t be found anywhere but DQ.

She said, “It’s only around some seasons, but the Dairy Queen confetti cake blizzard is something I prefer over any ice cream ever.”
And when asked about blizzards in general, senior Gavin Procick expressed his own thoughts on DQ blizzards.
Procick said, “The Queen of Dairy rules the realm of blended ice cream treats! Ruler of all she surveys, monarch of flavor. Empress of cream, Duchess of thickness, she is the one true heir to the ice cream throne. No more shall you settle for the bland ice cream bar of your local Circle K, for you have been saved. Fear eternal tastelessness no more, for the Queen of Dairy lives to give you flavor, to give you quality, and above all else, to lead you to refreshment.”
So to sum it all up, as far as ice cream goes, Dairy Queen is above all else. For decades it has been the best place to get quality ice cream of all sorts, and for decades it will remain that way, no matter who tries to argue otherwise.

Handel's takes over students' taste buds
By Lauren Snyder As the weather gets warmer, it makes everyone crave their favorite ice cream: Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt. The well known ice cream shop has been around since 1945, and still has people wanting more. With many unique flavor possibilities and different shake options, the company has provided a fun and flavorful memory for family and friends. Freshman Rocco Turner shares his favorite Handel's memory. Turner said, “ I went to Handel's with a group of friends, and we filmed a commercial for them. It was really fun and my best memory from Handel’s.” The environment is a place everyone grew up. From young ages to now teenage years, students at Cardinal Mooney are speaking about their best times at Handel’s, including senior Marissa Landers. “I’ve been going to Handel’s my whole life,” Landers said. “It feels like my second home because of how often I visit, but it’s hard not to. It always makes me feel like my younger self, especially because I’ve been getting the same flavor for years.” Although they have many new flavors and different options, some students prefer sticking to their favorites since they were younger, like senior Katie Hough. |
“I’ve been getting the cotton candy flavor ever since I was younger. I honestly should try others, but it's too good not to get,” Hough said.
Mooney also has many fundraisers involving Handel’s. It’s a great way for our community to donate to our academic and athletic programs. Handel’s has impacted our school and community in such a special way. Go get your favorite ice cream and make more memories this spring!
