Mooney Auction PERSEVEREs
By Cherish Little
The Celebrate Mooney Auction is one of Mooney’s proudest traditions. Due to the pandemic, an in-person event will not be happening, but the show will of course go on, in the form of a virtual event. For generations, memories have been made in the Mooney halls, and the auction ensures that memories will be made for future generations as well.
The donations and sponsorships that are acquired directly contribute to tuition assistance for Mooney families in need, which in turn provides youth all over the community with an equal opportunity to learn.
Mooney president Thomas Maj had a lot to say regarding the auction.

Featured ItemsPreviewed are items, and their retail values, that are up for grabs at the Celebrate Mooney Auction. There are still more options for bidding. |
“There are few ways in which a community can make as profound a statement as supporting our youth with quality education,” Maj said. “Many who participate are alumni whose love for the school extends beyond their own generation. Without the auction, I can only guess at how many students would be unable to attend Mooney.” This will be Alumni and Development Coordinator, Sue Brandenstein’s, seventh year overseeing preparations for the big day, out of the 18 years that it's been around. She said, “What I find most exciting about the auction is just the overall thrill of everything. Making money and bringing people together.” |
And she is far from alone in preparations for the big day, as she has many helping her.
“I have many volunteers. I call them my team,” Brandenstein said. “They’re an excellent team of past parents and current parents.”
On top of that, she also has the help of sophomore Sarah Owens who will be responsible for production.
All of these people work to ensure that the auction goes by without a hitch; their efforts will finally be put on display when the auction is underway. Plenty of exciting items will be available at the bidding. These items include AirPods, a Nintendo Switch, a casino getaway package, a Kate Spade purse, a three tier cheese board with two bottles of wine, an IPad Mini, and much, much more!
The online auction commences at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 22. And on Saturday, April 24, at 7 p.m., friends, families, donors, and benefactors will be brought together all in the name of Cardinal Mooney High School to support not just a building, but a place where memories are carved.
