Dear Readers,
Individuals who participate in creating The Beakon are also creating history for the Mooney family. The current staff enjoyed looking through issues of the newspaper from the early 2000’s. In 2021, the Journalism II class decided to bring the paper back as a website version. The Beakon has given the class an opportunity to flourish in their writing skills, and brought everyone together in the midst of a pandemic. The class has worked on each article for many hours to make sure the published version gives all readers a chance to relate to their own lives.
We are thrilled to carry on such a special tradition and know the future staff will love and value The Beakon just as much. Cardinal Mooney is a family. Sometimes it’s hard to keep in touch, so having the opportunity to read about the accomplishments of others is a fantastic way to stay up to date.
Writing for The Beakon is so much more than writing a few articles then releasing it on the internet for the school to enjoy. It is about giving members of the Mooney family from all walks of life the special opportunity to read about what is going on around the school from the students themselves. That’s why it’s important to take being a staff member for The Beakon seriously. With that being said, there’s also room to have fun and connect with peers as everyone puts their heads together to create a stellar reading experience for all.
We wanted to thank Miss Huber and Miss Oliver for helping us to bring this special publication back to Cardinal Mooney. It was a pleasure working on the newspaper, and we cannot wait to see what is in store for its future. Best wishes to junior Olivia DeCesare as she helps lead next year’s staff. As the senior staff members close their laptops and exit Room 140 for the last time, just know we will always carry The Beakon in our hearts.
Sincerely,
The Beakon's Senior Editors
